Plastic Oceans

Last week the Plastic Oceans Ambassadors celebrated 'the year that was' at an evening event supported by Cardno. The students presented to partners and supporters of Plastic Oceans Australasia and reflected on their achievements across 2019. Introducing the JMSS students, and speaking about her own journey in fighting plastic pollution, was POA’s first Junior Patron – Sophia Skarparis, the 2018 Young Conservationist of the year!

A big congratulations to the award winners from JMSS Ambassador program and a huge thank you to Stephanie Karras and Ricki Hersburgh for working with our students and talking about the exciting future of our schools education program.

Overall it was an amazing night celebrating the POA Education Program and everyone who has contributed to the program including: Joanna Lawrenson Ruxton, Plastic Oceans UK, AlburyCity Wodonga Council, Supa Gifts Australia, Bob Eatt Foundation, Coastal Protection Core, Beach Art Glass, Small World Journeys and Licella.

Plastic Oceans Australasia are ecstatic to also announce their 2020 Transpacific Schools campaign launch to take place at the Ocean Lovers Festival in March! Plastic Oceans are partnering with Sup Bro Paddle Boarding NZ to bring students across Australia and New Zealand an amazing competition. Keep an eye out for details early next year.

New JMSS Website

A new JMSS website is here!

It is a  modern and fresh site that will be easier to navigate for all current students, parents and students-to-be/ parents-to-be.

It has taken a long time to edit the old site and move over to the new system, so, please bear with us while we change over and iron out any issues.

It should be completely live by the 20th of December. The website address will still be the same -  www.jmss.vic.edu.au

If you would like to email us with any feedback please do so to:-

Bet you didn't know that!

My name is Eunice Wang, and I will be in year 12 next year. I am a two time Youth and Junior International National Artistic Roller Skater champion (2018 and 2019). In 2018 I was the recipient of the Rising Star award. And in the same year I was selected to represent Australia at the 2018 Oceania Championships, however I did not compete due to other commitments.

I train on Saturdays mornings starting at 6:30am, and sometimes after school on Mondays and Tuesdays until 6:45pm. Training sessions include 15-20 minutes of off-skates warm ups, 30-45 minutes of private lessons then the rest are left for me to train on my own.

Next year will be my second year in Junior International. This category consists of two events, Style dance and Freedance. Style dance are approximately 3:30 minutes long. It is a combination of one round of compulsory dance and specific step sequences and patterns that require 10-15 turns. Freedance is similar to Style dance, except the compulsory dance routine is changed to two extra step sequences and the length of the routine is generally longer.
