Middle School News

A New Year!

Here in Middle School, students have settled back into school life in a positive manner. We have spent some time during the first week back at school establishing class routines and expectations, and building relationships within the new level. This can be an unsettling time for some children as they get used to any changes. You might notice that your child is a little more tired, or that they are less motivated to get ready in the morning than they were on day one! We encourage you to support your child by having a regular routine on school nights and by helping them focus on the positive parts of their day. It's amazing what a difference it can make when we draw our attention to the things that make us happy.

Our Learning

READING - We have been working on reminding students about how to select a Just Right book.

WRITING – We have been learning how author’s use key words to give the reader information.

MATHS – We investigated how to tell if a number is odd or even.

HOMEWORK - A notice will go home this week with information about homework. Thank you to those parents who have already supported their child to establish regular home reading. Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have questions about how to support your child’s learning at home.

REMINDERS

Munch and Crunch – Students may bring in fresh fruit and vegetables to eat while they are working at around 10am each day.

Social Media – There has been some discussion among students regarding social media accounts such as TikTok and Instagram. We ask that parents take some time to read the advice from the Office of the eSafety Commisioner. They advise that most social media apps are not intended for children under the age of 13, and also outline the risks associated with using this type of app before being emotionally mature enough to do so.

Library books – we encourage all students to borrow books from our school library to take home and enjoy. It would be helpful if families could send along a library bag to keep these books in (and of course, support students to care for the books at home). Borrowing is on a FRIDAY for all Middle classes.
