2020 College Production -
Footloose Auditions!
The Performing Arts Department is excited to announce that the 2020 DSC Production will be Footloose, licensed by Rodgers & Hammerstein and based upon the hit 1980s film of the same name.
Footloose is the story of Ren McCormack, a teenage boy from Chicago. He and his mother move to the small town of Bomont after his father abandons them. Upon arriving, Ren finds himself at odds with most of the town, including the Reverend Bomont. The Reverend has convinced the town to outlaw dancing, which Ren finds unbelievable. With the help of Ariel (the Reverend’s daughter) and Willard (a country hick who becomes his best friend), Ren convinces the Reverend to let the teenagers dance, and in the process helps the town to heal from a tragedy that affected them all.

Suitcase Series
Our Year 10 Drama students performed in the Suitcase Series at the Malthouse Theatre as a culmination of their creative response to the play Atomic on Wednesday, 30 October 2019.
Atomic explores the power of humans to change the world—knowingly and unknowingly—for better or worse.
The play empowers young people to tackle the greatest challenge of their generation: climate change. This innovative program offered our students a chance to develop and expand their theatre-making skills and to share a performance day with their peers from around the state, before viewing Malthouse Theatre’s full professional production of the play. The students were able to perform their piece in a professional theatre space and received some excellent feedback from the Malthouse creatives involved!
VCE Drama News
The performance examination and written exams for VCE Drama are now over!
The solo performance exams especially are a real challenge, with students writing and developing a seven-minute original performance based on a stimulus set by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA).
Students performed a variety of solos based on Ghosts, Toys, Shakespeare’s Juliet and even Ms Scarlett from Cluedo! These were performed in front of a three- person panel of assessors at the Whitehorse Centre on Thursday, 31 October. Congratulations to the Year 12 Drama class of 2019! Well done!
