Remembrance Day Service - Beaumaris RSL

Kathy Gu (Year 7), Teah Harriage (Year 8 ), Haley Smith (Year 8 ) and myself  attended Beaumaris RSL’s Remembrance day service on November 11. This service was held to honour the sacrifices of armed forces and civilians during times of war, and to give us a chance to reflect and commemorate the end of hostilities of the the First World War.  We then proceeded to lay a wreath on behalf of Mentone Girls Secondary College. The day has come to also be an opportunity for all to reflect on the many conflicts that continue around the world today and the importance of striving towards achieving peaceful resolutions to conflict. This ceremony was beautify crafted and truly honoured all those who have fallen. Lest we forget.

Student Voice week

Last week at MGSC the Junior School Leadership Team held a student voice week. The team of Year 7 and Year 8 leaders ran various activities for all students to participate in as well as share their voice, ideas and opinions about the school. The new 2020 leadership teams will consider the information gathered at their planning day coming up soon.

The activities included a Wishing Tree where students could add a leaf with a thought or idea; a Graffiti Wall where all sorts of interesting ideas, saying, feelings, questions and drawings were added; a Photo Booth encouraging fun images with groups of friends and a movie to round of the week. During the course of the week, families were asked to donate a can of food that could be given to Food Bank to help those families needing some support.

Thank you to all those who contributed a tin or two. We will be taking the donations to Foodbank early next week so there is still time to add something if you missed out. The raffle has been drawn. Overall many students came along and it was great fun!
