On Friday 8 February our International Students celebrated Lunar New Year sharing lunch with the school's Executive Team. During the celebration, Vietnamese Year 12 student, Trung Nghia Pham, was named as Blackfriars International Student leader for 2019 and presented with his badge of service by Principal, Mr Simon Cobiac.

2019 is the Year of the Pig. In Chinese culture, pigs symbolize wealth and their big ears are associated with good fortune. People born in the Year of the Pig are thought to be pragmatic, generous, and popular. Chinese zodiacs are also linked to the five elements — metal, wood, water, fire, and earth.

This year, Blackfriars has 14 International students, hailing from China, Vietnam, Korea and Malaysia. The boys are spread throughout the Secondary school. Our Overseas Students Program adds an extra dimension to life at Blackfriars enabling both domestic and international students to think beyond boundaries, form lasting global friendships and develop an informed perspective of the world.

If you are interested in learning more about this aspect of Blackfriars, particularly about how you might host an international student whilst they study here, please contact Mrs Angela Honner at the school.

Vietnamese Tet Festival

Part of the school's celebration of Lunar Year will be to join with the South Australian Vietnamese community at the traditional Tet Festival, being held this weekend at  Regency Park Reserve, Days Road. Blackfriars will have a tent at the celebration so please drop by if you are heading to the festival on Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
