2018 Merit Award winners with Mr Simon Cobiac and Mr David Ruggiero at Government House.

Dear Families and Community of Blackfriars

SACE Merit Ceremony 2019

The SACE Merit Ceremony was conducted at Government House on Tuesday 5 February. I was delighted to attend with Mr Dave Ruggiero (Deputy Principal-Secondary) and Ms Linda Harvey (Teacher of EAL and Health Studies). The merit ceremony was a very special occasion held to recognise and celebrate the outstanding success of Year 12 students across the State in 2018. The ceremony highlighted the diverse range of student learning in the SACE and the commitment of students to excellence and achieving their best. Keynote speakers at the ceremony highlighted the wonderful support students received from their parents and caregivers and the support, encouragements and excellent education provided by teachers and school communities.

I was very pleased to be present with Blackfriars parents and families and celebrate the success of eight Blackfriars 2018 graduates who achieved merits (A+ with merit) in nine different subjects. The students who achieved merits and the subject and teacher were:

  • Mohammad Sayed Jawadi - Health (Ms Linda Harvey)
  • Mohammad Sayed Jawadi - Religion Studies (Mr David Ruggiero)
  • Randula De Zoysa - Physics (Mr Duro Dobrijevic)
  • Jarod Eddy - Philosophy (Mr Peter Sage)
  • Dyson Hilder - General Mathematics (Mr Matthew Wallace)
  • Long Huynh - Maths Methods (Mr Dan Winter)
  • Youngmo Koo - Specialist Maths (Ms Val Frost)
  • Alessandro Papandrea - Biology (Mrs Kristie Abbott)
  • Zhang Tianhua - Chinese Background (Ms Fang Liu)

Congratulations to these boys for their outstanding achievements and my acknowledgement to the important role played by families, teachers and the community of Blackfriars who nurtured and encouraged their success.

R-12 Parent Welcome and Information Evening

My sincere thanks to the many parents and caregivers who attended on Wednesday night. Your support and encouragement for your boys is very important to their success and your presence and involvement in supporting Blackfriars speaks loudly to them. The message from the literature on educational achievement is very clear; it is vitally important that parents/caregivers, boys and the School continue to work in close partnership with each other in order to achieve the best possible outcomes from education. I encourage you to be involved in your son’s education throughout 2019, read the fortnightly newsletter, engage with SEQTA, attend parent evenings and school community events and clearly demonstrate your support for life’s journey at Blackfriars.
