FROM THE PRINCIPAL

TERM 1 - WEEK 4

To the St Nicholas School Community,

Term 1 and the 2019 school year are well and truly in full swing. I hope you have enjoyed the first four weeks.

On Tuesday the St Nicholas Executive met to put the final touches on our 2019 School Improvement Plan. The plan sets a clear road map for our school community, outlining strategies we will undertake in our mandate of continuous improvement. We should all be very proud of our school, though we also need to have a plan to get even better.

Last Friday’s swimming carnival was a snapshot of so many wonderful facets which reflect the culture of St Nicholas. Witnessing the smiles and joy on the children’s faces, the determination of our swimmers, non-swimmers in 2018 now swimming in a number of events in 2019, team spirit, supportive parents and dedicated staff. Thank you to the entire school community for making last Friday such a wonderful day. A special thank you to Mrs  Belinda Tyrrell for her  thorough organisation, ensuring the carnival ran like clockwork.

Thanks to the parents who attended the Parent Information Night. Your presence is a wonderful acknowledgement of your support for quality education. It also acknowledges your understanding of how crucial it is to have the parent/school relationship. At St Nicholas we look forward to working with all our parents to support our children.

Congratulations top Gemma Tolmie, St Nicholas Aboriginal Education Assistant, who has recently been appointed to coordinate the Mathematics component of the 2019 Wii Gaay camp (Gifted and Talented program for our ATSI students). This is a wonderful acknowledgement of both her capacity and the wonderful programs and processes she has implemented at St Nicholas.

We also wish to acknowledge Mrs Jessica Perks on receiving her Proficient Accreditation status from NESA - a wonderful acknowledgement of her skills as an educator.

Have a wonderful week.

John Clery
