2023 - Return to school

Grade 1-6 - Monday 30 January

Foundation - Thursday 2 February

Well it is time to say farewell to the 2022 school year and thank everyone for their hard work and support.  Thank you to our amazing students, our hard working staff and the wonderful parent community.  It has been a great year with lots of great learning and many favourite activities: our Festival of Hidden Treasures; the Kids on Parade performances for families to enjoy; School camps for Grade 3-6 students; wonderful sporting events with individuals representing our school right through to state level; an amazing Christmas Celebration, just last week.

It is also time to say good-bye to staff and students.  We farewelled Margaret Taylor, Laura Harris, Marg Patching, Kristy Dixon and Karen Hunsdale in our last newsletter.  Regretfully I also need to let you know that Sam Younes is moving to Rolling Hills Primary School as a Leading Teacher.  This is a promotion for Sam which is exciting, however, we will miss him around this place.  We are busy recruiting for a new staff member at the moment and should have someone in place before Christmas, ready to start the new year with us.  We want to wish Sam all the very best in his new role and I am sure we will hear about his successes in the future.

Farewell to our Grade 6 students

At our assembly on Tuesday 20 December at 1:15PM, we will be saying good-bye to our current Grade 6 students and their families.  We want to wish them all the very best for secondary college and look forward to them coming back to tell us all about it.

Welcome to our new Chaplain

I am very excited to let our community know we have a replacement Chaplain starting with us in the new year.  Nelson Tlangchan has been appointed to the position and will be with us on Thursdays and Fridays.  Nelson is coming to us from Mooroolbark Primary School where he has been working with students as an Education Support staff member. He is passionate about sport, with basketball and soccer his favourites.  He speaks many languages, Miso, Hakka Chin, Hindi and English.  There will be more information in the new year about the support roles he will be offering the school.

Instrumental Music Program - Revamp for 2023

At the end of the year we will be wrapping up with Junior Rockers as our provider of Instrumental Music.  We will continue to have Diana Matthews teaching keyboard and are looking into a new music school for all other instruments, except for percussion.  Laura Harris who has been working with us in an Education Support role for the past three years is actually a very talented percussionist, you may have seen Laura in the Christmas Celebration band.  We are excited to let our community know that Laura will be back with us in 2023 as our percussion teacher.  We will be organising a trial day in Week 1 of the school year and sending home flyers.  Very exciting!

Crossing Supervisors

Maroondah City Council have asked us to promote the positions they have available for Crossing Supervisors.  See below if you are interested.

Crazy Dress Up Day

What an amazing response from our community, donating so many items for families affected by floods.  The enormous collection of items will be distributed this week to local organisations who are supporting families who are needing to relocate due to the floods.

Second hand uniform

Over the holiday period, if you are cleaning out your child's clothing cupboard, please consider donating uniform your child has grown out of, to our second hand uniform supplies.  We collect all eagle logo uniform items, polo shirts, jumpers, rain jackets, school bags.  We also collect the summer dresses, black shorts, long pants and black shoes.  Just drop these into the school office at the beginning of the new year, they will be gratefully received and forwarded on to other families in need.

And on that note, on behalf of all the staff and teachers at Mullum Primary School we want to wish you a very restful break and enjoy celebrating with your families the festive season.

See you all in 2023.
