Acting Leader of Learning and Teaching Will Lyon
Hello there MCC community,
Well it’s that time of the year again where we begin the process of winding down after a long but rewarding term four. Both students and staff have engaged in a variety of learning opportunities this term and have finished the term in a strong and educational manner.
Most recently students in years seven, eight and nine have completed our annual PAT Testing sequence. PAT testing provides teachers excellent data on student learning gains for the academic year in addition to providing insight into areas of learning strengths and areas that need to be targeted in the new academic year. I would like to thank all students who proactively engaged with the testing program and gave 110%.
In the last newsletter I extended my thanks to staff that have help lead the
Gr8 learning team. It is now time to thank those that led the GAP (Growth Action Plan) team in 2022. So to Melinda Foschi, John O’Reilly, Angela Morris, Damien Herb and Lora Segrave thank you for lead staff to develop meaningful and practical solutions to engage our learners this year – your desire to lead was inspiring and I felt very fortunate to be able to work with such a dynamic team it makes me think of my favourite scripture quote; be eager to serve not because they must but because they are willing (Peter 5:1-3).
Writing this newsletter piece is rather bittersweet as it is the last one I will write as the Acting Leader of Learning and Teaching. I would like to extend my thanks the College executive for trusting in me to lead in this position and I thank the wider staff for their patience as I learnt the ropes. This has been a very rewarding term for me to be able to act in this role and I have enjoyed the challenges immensely. I will leave you with a final quote about learning from a staff member reflecting on their time in their professional learning team - Learning is like the gym. I'm never excited to go to the gym and do a workout but afterwards, I have a feeling of great accomplishment. I feel like this about learning. After every lesson, I value the time given to have accomplished something beneficial for my teaching practice and my students.
I trust you will all have a wonderful holiday period and to borrow a phrase from my Greek family - Kala Cristouyenna – Merry Christmas.
Mr William Lyon
