MCC our Best ever HSC Results! So far 9 students with an ATAR of 90 and above
Congratulations to our High Achievers
2022 has been another year of growth at Marian Catholic College. Once again the year has flown by with a flurry of academic achievements, sporting victories, cultural pursuits and of course individual successes and failures. It has been a period of significant change with the beginning of the year marked with another cohort achieving outstanding HSC results and an almost ‘covid free’ commencement to school. We hit the halfway point with the retirement of our College Principal Mr Le Brocque, and we are ending the year with everyone in this room growing as individuals having contributed to the MCC community in their own unique way.
I feel that the success of our College this year can be attributed to the high quality learning and teaching that takes place, the importance we place on living our faith, the care we demonstrate for one another and the outstanding facilities that we offer within our College.
Academically we have continued to excel. We are extremely proud that our HSC and Naplan results were outstanding and placed us as the most successful school in the Wagga diocese in both areas. This achievement is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our students. We also thank the teaching staff for their willingness to engage with ongoing professional development and growth to ensure that we have quality professionals in front of our classes everyday.
Our Christian faith has continued to be lived in an inclusive way. It is clear that we are all aware of the importance of living by the values modelled to us by Jesus Christ in the Gospels – values of love, compassion, service, honesty, humility, and respect, and to help us all to know how to love God and to love their neighbour.
There are 726 students at Marian. While not everyday is the perfect day for everyone, I can say with confidence that student growth and the development of the whole person is a core focus of our school. How we treat each other defines us, while some of us are better at this than others, Marian is a safe and vibrant community because as a whole we have continued to treat each other with respect, nurtured relationships and shown care for one another, this is not the case in all schools, we are indeed lucky.
Educational facilities at MCC are impressive. Our TAS and Hospitality space is now complete with the official opening occurring early in the new year however, staff and students are already benefiting from the extraordinary facilities on offer in this new space. Additionally all five new classrooms are now fully operational as are the new senior girls bathrooms and office facilities. The next stage of development will commence over the Christmas period with the creation of a new sports shed, moving of the demountables and ongoing College beautification.
My thanks go to College Executive Mr Herb for his dedication and hard work regarding all aspects of the Learning and Teaching and his willingness to step into the Acting Assistant Principal role when Mr Le Brocque retired. I also thank Mr Lyon for his work as leader of Learning and Teaching for the past 16 weeks also. Our congratulations go to Mr Abdala for securing permanency in his Leader of Missions role, a reflection of his hard work in providing our students with meaningful formation opportunities. Ms Star undertook her new role as Leader of Pastoral Care and Student wellbeing with enthusiasm and the reinstatement of the role has allowed for the important focus on student and staff wellbeing to continue this year. I would also like to acknowledge our middle leaders, both Pastoral and KLA for their continued hard work, they are the driving force of the school, without them all pastoral and learning initiatives would not happen.
This year we welcomed our new College Chaplin Father Cyprian who has become a valued member of the community already. He has made a significant contribution to the spiritual and sacramental life of the College and we look forward to working with him in 2023. We also farewelled our longstanding College Principal Mr Alan Le Brocque, who journeyed into retirement. We thank him for his leadership and significant contribution to our community .
Finally, I thank our students and families for their ongoing support of the College. It is essential that we all work together to fulfil our College Vision to ensure that our College is focused upon providing excellence in learning, the development of a deep faith, a commitment to care and service and a desire to become active stewards for the world around us. I wish you all the best for a restful break, I look forward to another successful year in 2023 where we will all continue to celebrate and live our motto ‘the Way, the Truth and the Life’.
