Aussie Rules Academy Excursion

With the AFL season fast approaching, students in Years 9 and 10 of the Aussie Rules Academy took the opportunity to get a sneak peak of two AFL sides before the season ahead.

The students ventured out to Arden Street to watch North Melbourne host Richmond. Students were treated to 6 periods of football watching some of the games best run around.

The excursion focus was on ‘Attitude – What do the best do?’.  Students watched the players they aspire to be. They kept their stats over the course of a quarter, but also watched what their player does away from the football – how do they make their team and team-mates better?

This first-hand look at how the elite operate provided some great insight into strategies that we can now apply in our academy sessions and games.

The highlight for the students for the day was meeting some of their heroes. After the AFL players had finished their required game time, they made their way out and back through the crowd. Our Academy students were able to meet some of the players and get some snaps and signatures. This meant a lot to the students as this is something that they will have forever and provide motivation and inspiration to get the most out of themselves in Academy Sessions.

It's been a busy start to the school year for Soccer Academy!

We marked our return to competition football for 2023. Our boys played their first game in the SSV Premier League Cup against SEDA Kensington at DISC. In what was a fast paced and highly entertaining game our boys went down 3-2 and unfortunately dropped points against Box Hill.

The first game had lots of action with our boys bringing the game back to 2-2 after going in 2-0 down at half time, Isaac Kennealy and Daniel Latomanski with our goals. SEDA got a late winner which saw us pull up short in our first game of 3 in the group stage.

Our Premier League Girls also played a tight game which ended 5-3 Rowville's way with notable goals from Holly Sposato, Jaimee Vassiliou and Jaliya Franco.

The journey these girls have been on from year 7 till now is definitely something we look back on and be proud of. Hopefully they can pick up points against Maribyrnong and contest for the semi!

Congratulations is well deserved as our girls also had a taste of victory taking out the SSV Keilor Division Senior Girls Futsal Comp.

A well-played day resulting in lots of goals and conceding just one goal across 4 games.

With our school gym back in action we were also quickly on our way with our sport specific technical and skill testing back in motion. Our juniors' and inters' now have valuable testing data along with Veo analytics throughout the semester to structure their own improvement goals and habits around to further their individual development this year.
