Year 12

On Thursday the 9th of February, the year 12 visual communication design class went into the city to look at this year’s award-winning MPavilion as well as the 2015 MPavilion. The 2022 MPavilion is the 9th Pavilion that has been designed and built in the Queen Victoria Gardens then gifted to the city by the Naomi Milgrom Foundation and relocated to a permanent home. It is a temporary structure that showcases spectacular colours and inspires culture, featuring an Ingenious Canopy for Melbourne, designed by All (Zone). They are a group of female-led designs accompanied by their project delivery team originated in Thailand, who have collaborated and supported each other to design, test and work with materials used for the first time in Australia. They’ve projected the idea of wanting to ‘celebrate outdoor living’ while offering relaxing rays of light through it’s layers.

This excursion allowed us to create a range of observational drawings of both pavilions and local surroundings which have helped inspire us to design our own pavilion where we’ve constructed models and explored with a range of materials and shapes. We used the MPavilion to inspire our own unique pavilions. The pavilions we designed reflected everything we have learned about how people engage with their environment, particularly with structures. We learned how to design a pavilion that encourages members of the public to meet, enjoy, and live in the moment.
