Library Refresh

One of our favourite times of the year for the library team is the start of Semester 1, when we welcome new students to our library and reconnect with returning students. This year though has been extra exciting!

In the second half of last year, the library embarked on an upgrade to the library facilities with some of the work happening over the summer break. Our team is really enjoying our newly refreshed area but, most of all, we love seeing the students connect with our new space and being completely ‘blown away’ by our library upgrade.

‘Wow!’ ‘Is this really our library?’, ‘How amazing is the furniture’, ‘The couches are so comfy’, ‘It looks so much bigger!’, ‘The colours are awesome!’, ‘The view from the windows is stunning!’ These comments are just a sample of student responses upon walking into our library for the first time this year!

Our students have always loved and valued our library, but now we have a library that better fosters creativity and wellbeing, is unique, continues to be a safe haven and an exciting place of discovery.  We look forward to seeing countless students pass through our doors and reaping the many benefits of having such an amazing library.

Whilst our library looks a little fancier, our high-level library service remains the same. The library is accessible to all students throughout the school day. We are open before school from 8:15am, at recess and lunchtimes as well as after school to 4:30pm Monday through to Thursday. In addition, students are reminded that they are welcome to attend the Homework Club which runs in the library after school on Wednesday afternoons.

Our library fiction collection is an extensive collection of popular and interesting novels that caters and appeals to all abilities. We regularly purchase new and up-to-date books, and all our staff are available to recommend books for all reading abilities. An important part of our library’s vision is to foster an ongoing love of reading and we offer many services to support this aim. As part of the library program, we provide a fun and successful Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge program every year.  All Year 7 students participate in the VPRC while older students are encouraged to speak with a library staff member if they would like to participate in the Challenge.
