WELCOME TO OUR 2023 PREPS

We welcomed all our new Preps on Tuesday 31st January.  The teachers working in our Prep Centre have been very impressed with the students and the smooth way they have transitioned to St John’s.   We welcome new families who have joined us at St John’s this year, and we also welcome those students with older siblings who we have watched grow over the past four years from toddlers into the Grade Prep students they are today.   We look forward to partnering with you in your child’s education over the next seven years.

STAFF PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

Staff returned to work on Friday 27th January and have attended several professional training sessions, including completing our First Aid Training and meeting with staff from Inform & Empower, who will be supporting the teachers, students and parents with our Cyber Safety initiatives this year.   Staff also have spent time finalising classrooms in preparation for the beginning of Term 1.

CYBER SAFETY PARENT MEETING

Whilst most young people today are very capable working and playing in an online environment, in many cases there is not a corresponding awareness of the importance of cyber etiquette and safety.  To address this we have employed the services of Martin & Carley McGauran from Inform & Empower to work with staff, students and parents in workshops centred around the theme of Raising Kids in a Digital World.

Students will be participating in online training in the first few weeks of the term.  Parents and students will be required to sign an ICT User agreement, before students will be able to access their school computer. Parents will be given these forms at the Parent Information Sessions.

The information sessions are being held in the school hall next Wednesday 8th February.  Parents will receive an invite this Thursday via the school app and are asked to book and attend one of the two sessions available.  The first session of the day will be from 1:30 -3:00 and is open to parents who wish to attend prior to school pick up (this is a normal school day - no early finish).  The second session will be held in the evening from 7:00 - 8:30 for those parents who are unable to attend the school hours session.

CAR PARK SAFETY

The school car park is open at the two of the busiest traffic times of the day - before and after school.  For everyone’s safety, we ask you to please remember the following:

  • Pedestrians should enter the school via the footpath and NOT walk through the carpark gate
  • When moving between the school and the carpark, everyone is asked to use the crossing located near the front of the school
  • Parents who do park in the carpark, MUST walk over and collect their child. NO student is permitted to enter the car park unless they are accompanied by their adult
  • The Drop Off Zone is only active in the morning and parents MUST remain in their car, while students exit the vehicle independently.

SCHOOL NURSE

As mentioned during the meeting held during the Prep Transition Sessions, the School Nurse will be visiting St John’s during Term 1.  This is a free service offered to all prep children attending primary schools in Victoria.  The School Nurse Program provides families with the opportunity to have a health assessment completed with their child.  The nurse also is a great source of information and advice about healthy behaviours.  Her first scheduled visit will be Tuesday 21st February.

SUBWAY LUNCH ORDERS

The school will continue our partnership with Subway this year.  This initiative provides students with an opportunity to receive a ‘lunch order’, that families have ordered and paid for online, prior to the day.  Our first scheduled Subway Lunch Day for Term 1 will be Friday 10th February.

The ordering process has changed from 2022.  Parents are asked to please ensure they have correctly set up their profile and order at
