Independent Learning

Knowledge, skills and wellbeing

Final week of challenges

FOR the second year in a row, the College ran Independent Learning Week during the last week of school for students in Years 7–9 who took part in a range of activities and seminars centred on personalised learning, engagement in different topics and development of knowledge and skills for wellbeing.

On the first day, all students rotated through three presentations that addressed the risks and dangers of vaping and e-cigarette use (conducted by Perennial Health Institute),  consent and respectful relationships (Loving For Life WA), and internet awareness and cybersafety (Surf Online Safe, Paul Litherland).

Excursions and service-based activities were also incorporated into the schedule and included an Italian excursion to Fremantle; a football referee course; the Climate Canons planning session; marine debris (beach) clean-up and the College Chorale performance at the Harold Hawthorne Community Centre. Students engaged in literacy and numeracy learning activities through Frankenstories; Give Write; the UNO Challenge and a Mathematics Incursion, whilst all Year 7 students have been provided with an opportunity to complete an introductory First Aid course. There have also been opportunities for physical activity through a volleyball competition, water polo and fitness and meditation activities.
