Q&A with . . .  Mrs Laurito

AS the new face of Student Services, Mrs Tamara Laurito helps students and staff in a myriad of ways to navigate their way through each and every day. Here, Mrs Laurito reveals what she has enjoyed about her role since joining SNC in Term 3 this year, and what’s on the horizon over the holidays.

St Norbert News: Thanks for finding time during your busy schedule to talk to the SNN, Mrs Laurito. Have you always worked in education?

Tamara Laurito:  I have spent most of my working life in education, but prior to schools, I worked in the Human Resource industry.  I enjoy meeting new people and working to assist them.

SNN: What were your first impressions of St Norbert College?

TL: Staff and students at St Norbert College immediately made me feel warmly welcomed.  It is a wonderful community which cares deeply for its staff, students and families. It is lovely to see students undertaking and enjoying service of others and to be given the opportunity as a staff member to assist organisations and people less fortunate than us.  I am in awe of those here in our community and the amount of work they do to make others’ lives a little bit better.

SNN: How would you describe the students you meet and greet every day?

TL: Students at St Norbert are very polite and friendly.  I am able to have a laugh and a bit of fun with them and aim to provide a safe space to those students who are not having a great day.

SNN: What are the top three requests students come to you for?

TL: I usually give them a little bit of a mum speech before helping them with things they have forgotten for the day.  Various items of uniform, laptops or their lunch are amongst the most common things they forget.

SNN: What is the best part about your job?

The students definitely.  They are all so different and make each day interesting.

SNN: What are most looking forward to about Christmas and the summer holidays?

I love spending time with my own family.  I have three adult children and a husband and I enjoy the Australian summer that allows us to get outdoors.  I enjoy gardening, taking my dog Bentley (a three year old King Charles Cavalier) to the beach and riding my bike and swimming for fitness.  I enjoy getting in the kitchen and cooking, mainly Italian food.

SNN: What’s the No.1 thing you would like students to remember when they return to College in 2023?

To use your diary well and remember to pack your bag the night before as your parents and guardians also live busy lives and you will make things easier for them.   Remember to be grateful for the wonderful opportunity you have been given to learn at this School and to make the most of the opportunities available to you here.  Try everything!
