We are thrilled to announce the implementation of our new library management system, Oliver v5! This cutting-edge system is designed to enhance accessibility, streamline book borrowing and create an enriched learning environment for our students.

Key features include 1) a user-friendly interface, 2) a personal recommendations function, where the system suggests books based on students' preferences, and 3) an improved borrowing function, where students can quickly check book availability, place holds, renew items, and receive timely notifications.

Global Connections Program - last call for hosting Japanese students!

Lucie Dickens, Academic Dean of Languages

Last call for hosting students from Hiroshima!

As part of our Global Connections Program, we are pleased to resume our hosting partnership with Hiroshima Jogakuin Junior High School in collaboration with the Australian Institute of International Understanding (AIIU).

Hiroshima Jogakuin is one of our three partner schools in Japan, and our relationship dates back to 2002, with lots of regular visits between our schools over the years. This year, we are expecting up to 20 Japanese students aged 15 to 17 to visit us from 30 July to 12 August (Weeks 3 and 4 of Term 3).

The students will attend Kilvington during the day and we are seeking expressions of interest from families willing to host a student during the exchange period. The experience of hosting a Japanese student would be an enriching and exciting experience for our Kilvington families and one I hope you will consider.

Expressions of interest can be sent by email to AIIU National Program Manager, Melissa Di Pasquale (melissa@aiiu.com.au).  For further information, please call AIIU Group Coordinator, Joy Dickinson, on 9576 7500.

Colgate Oral Care Recycling Collection

Francis McGinley, Year 4 Classroom Teacher

In Term 2, as part of our Sustainability Program, we will be taking part in the ‘Colgate Oral Care Recycling Collection’.

We are hoping to stop oral care products landing in landfill when they can be responsibly recycled.

WHAT CAN YOU DROP OFF FOR ORAL CARE RECYCLING?

To help out, please drop off at School:

  • Toothpaste tubes and caps (any brand, used or empty items)
  • Manual toothbrushes
  • Electric toothbrush heads
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste tube plastic packaging
  • Floss containers
  • Interdental brushes

WHERE IS THE DROP OFF?

The collection bin will be outside M3 (opposite the IT office) from Monday 22 May to 23 June.

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE COLLECTED?

Once collected, the oral care products are cleaned and separated by material type. The fibres and plastics are recycled into raw formats that manufacturers use to make new products.

Connor's Run registration

A few weeks ago, our Year 10 students went 'Grey for May' in honour of Connor's Run registration day.

In September, as part of our Health/PE fitness unit and our Community Service program, our Year 10 students will participate in Connor's Run to raise awareness and funds for the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation (RCDF), supporting pediatric brain cancer.

More information on Connor's Run and the RCDF can be found here. Parents, family members and friends are also welcome to join our Kilvington team here.
