Principals Report

Dear Parents & Friends

A lot has happened since our last newsletter.

Senior Subject Information night was held last Wednesday in preparation for Senior School subject selections, which have been running during class time all this week.  Thanks to Senior School staff for their organisation and for putting the students at the centre to ensure each student has a career pathway which matches the subjects they have selected.  We are geared to maximise the work readiness or further study options for all our students.

VTAC information night was held at our College on Tuesday, 6th August.  Many students from local and surrounding district schools attended.

SPA Celebrations

On Tuesday, 6th August we held a SPA evening in E-Wing for students who obtained greater than 4.5 on their SPA 3 reports.  Students and their families were invited to celebrate this achievement.  Well done to all these students! You are a credit to yourselves, your school and your families.  Keep up the high expectations which are set by you, the school and home.  It was a joy to meet the students, their parents/guardians and families to celebrate their successes over a ‘bite to eat’.

Maths Competition

Well done to the 28 students who participated in the Maths Competition last week.  The results will be announced in mid-September.

Music Performance

Well done to our music students who performed in the BOITE Singers Festival at the Melbourne Town Hall on Thursday.

Staffing

As you may know Megan Michalaidis is transferring to the ‘Head of Teaching & Learning’ of the Greater Shepparton College (interim name) in preparation for the new curriculum at our new College.  Congratulations to Megan and we wish her all the best in the new role. Although Megan will still be at the College on a regular basis, we welcome her replacement, Stacie Lundberg into the Assistant Principal role (Year 10-12) for the remainder of the year.

Greater Shepparton College (interim name) Update

Our transition team, consisting of Julie Hannan, Gabby McKindley, Anna Sloane and myself, have been busily visiting the 22 surrounding Primary schools in the area, meeting all the Grade 6 students in preparation for the transition of approximately 430 students in 2020.

Information packs and letters confirming student placement of Year 7 students in our new College will be going out to parents and students over the next week.

We are busy organising transition visits on a multitude of levels. Students with additional needs are having tours of the school to meet with key people and ‘get to know’ their new surroundings. There will be many opportunities for extra transition visits to assist students in feeling more comfortable, safe and cared for prior to Orientation Day on 10th December, when students will attend for a full day of activities. Further communication will be provided through your Primary school in regard to dates.

Our Year 8 students have already visited the Mooroopna Campus in preparation for 2020 to familiarise themselves.  There will be other opportunities to head over again this term.

Open conversation opportunity (Friday’s: 9:15am – 10:15am @ McGuire Campus) -

I will be available for questions about the new phase of transition to our new College, between 9:15am – 10:15 am every Friday until the end of Term 3. Please phone Heather Gribben (58589800) at the College if you would like to be part of this small, more personal opportunity to discuss how the future of Greater Shepparton College (interim name) will be developed. More importantly this is an opportunity to have a conversation to discuss how we will be supporting your child through the transition period.

Looking forward to meeting families at this time over a cuppa.

Have a great fortnight.

My door is always open.

Regards

John Sciacca
