Fairview

                                                  Miss Felicity Donohue

Hello and Welcome

Welcome back to all our Fairview families for a busy and exciting Term 3. In the junior years, this is typically a term where students have time to consolidate their learning and build their knowledge.

It is a busy term for our students with lots of events on the horizon. Swimming lessons, Bastille Day celebrations, Book Week activities and many more events will be happening throughout the term. Keep an eye out for more information as each event comes around.

As we begin the Prep transition process, I look forward to getting to know our new students and their families. We start the process with a parent information night this term to assist our families in preparing our 2020 preps for the big move to school.

I want to say a special thank you to all the students, teachers and families who have warmly welcomed me to Fairview. It’s been great getting to know the students and I look forward to getting to know our parents so please say hi if you see me in the yard. I’d love to meet you all!

How Full is Your Bucket?

“Positive words are the glue that holds relationships together.” Tom Rath

During our first Assembly, students were introduced to the concept of ‘bucket filling’, a simple analogy to help us understand how our interactions can have a positive or negative effect on others. Through the story, How Full is Your Bucket? by Tom Rath, we looked at how small gestures can have a big impact on people we interact with. Looking at the idea of bucket fillers and bucket dippers, students learnt how simple tasks such as a smile or asking a friend to play not only makes the other person feel good about themselves, but it also increases the positive mindset of the person giving the gesture. Filling the bucket of another person fills our own bucket in turn. On the other hand, negative interactions can dip from other peoples’ buckets. We are considering how our bucket fills and dips during the day, and how this can help us think about how someone is feeling or gauge our own mindset.  After our first Assembly, two Prep students told me they were going on a bucket filling adventure, trying to fill as many buckets as possible.

It is so encouraging to see our youngest students taking action to spread positivity through our school.

Parent Helpers Information Session

The College is offering Fairview and Cumberland School parents the opportunity to partake in the Parent Helpers’ Information Session if you missed the opportunity to attend in February. It will outline the program requirements and how parents can actively be involved in College life. Parents who have not attended either sessions cannot assist in the classroom. The session is scheduled for Thursday 29 August, from 6.00pm to 7.00pm in the College Library. Interested participants can email admin@aitkencollege.edu.au by Friday 16 August.

Term 3 Assembly Schedule

The Term 3 Assembly schedule is below. Parents are welcome to attend and hear all about the exciting learning happening in Fairview. Miss Bianca Accurso and Year 2A shared healthy lifestyle tips through small group dramatisations last week. Thank you 2A for helping us remember to get a good night’s sleep, eat well, brush our teeth and turn off our iPads.
