Book Week

Hey IPS,

Thank you so much for being a part of our 2021 Book Week celebrations!

ONLINE SPEAKERS

Last week, students participated in an online incursion with an author or illustrator! Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 met illustrator Marc McBride who taught us all about drawing different creatures like dragons! Marc created this dragon using our ideas and is sending it to us at IPS.

STAFF DRESS-UP

We had a fabulous response on our Facebook page to our Best-Dressed staff team vote. Community votes and student votes have now been counted…

AND THE WINNING TEAM IS….

YEAR 2

Congratulations Year 2!

You put such a great effort into your ‘Year 2 in Lockdown Land’ dress-up and it was amazing.

DOOR DESIGN COMPETITION

There were some amazing entries into the ‘Door Design Competition’, Ms Rodriguez and Mrs Roberts were blown away!

AND THE WINNERS ARE…

Foundation - Year 2

1st prize winner- Miles Z (FM)

"My 3D door design with nature I collected from my park. It is a treehouse door. Each colour door you go either into an old world, future world, another world or space. To get into the front door you just use the normal door knob of course!"

Miles showed creativity by incorporating nature within his door design, his use of bold paint colours for his painted doors and light colours for the sky makes his design really cohesive.

I also love the extra details on the knobs and the painted tree embellished with bark. I would like to enter every door – the old, future and another world/space.

Mrs Roberts says "Way to go Miles! "

Runner up- Maddie C-H (2B)

Maddie showed such creativity with her door design, creating it on a real door in her home all by herself! I love the light colours that she has used and the shapes to create an image of a door. She even used the colour blue to create windows that look see-through. Maddie really thought about our Book Week theme ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds’ and represented this in her design with 6 book posters. Well done Maddie, this is fantastic!

Years 3-6

1st prize winner- Michael B (6H)

Michael’s design showed a very clear understanding of the elements and principles of art, particularly colour, line, space, balance, rhythm and variety. His use of black and white lines and old-fashioned mechanisms and gears very cleverly depicted a world long gone.

Michael then slowly balanced out his design by introducing colour to show a progression from the Old World to the New and Other Worlds. Imagery such as the power-on sign as the door handle, and the 10110 binary code represented our use of modern technology.

Finally, the parallel lines and cord took me to another dimension such as one seen in The Matrix, a truly outstanding piece of art Michael and a worthy winner, congratulations!

Runner up- Omer H (4T)

Omer’s entry into the door design competition earned him a well-deserved runner-up prize. His design was particularly striking, full of colours and symbols to depict the New World that we live in.

My eye was drawn to so many interesting things in his art, the robot people, the stars and swirls and more. Omer balanced out his art with a brightly coloured background which filled the page, and the ‘Welcome’ voice coming from the door handle really made want to step through the door. Well done Omer, a fantastic door design!

The two winners will receive a signed Alex Miles book and 100 house points each and our two runners up will receive a book and 50 house points each. These will be presented to the winners at our next on site assembly.
