School Council – President’s Report – September

Lockdowns and Learning

As lockdown has been extended again – I want to say to everyone in the school community – you are doing so well!  I was buoyed by the coverage of Victoria’s NAPLAN results in the media recently and the preliminary figures we saw last night indicated that our IPS children are doing exceptionally well in reading, writing and numeracy.  That’s a huge credit to all the teaching staff, parents, caregivers and of course students at IPS!  We should all feel proud that our children’s learning is thriving despite the challenges that COVID has thrown our way.

Lockdown impacts everyone in our IPS community differently. If you are struggling or need support, there are confidential options within the school. If you or anyone you know needs help.

Digital engagement

As lockdowns and “COVID normal” have now become normal, we are looking to pivot and enhance our school council engagement to leverage the digital strengths.

Shortly a survey will come out to seek your input on how School Council can support school community connectedness by leveraging digital channel and solutions.

Thank you

Thank you to Sarah and Leigh for stepping into a leadership roles at After Care as Edwina transitioned into retirement.  You provided stability, energy and support to families and staff throughout this time.  Thank you – Sarah and Leigh.

Again, the School Council would like to extend a special thank you to every member of the school community for turning your homes into workplaces, classrooms, play-centres and bottomless food serveries! Some days are easier than others, but all of them have required you to work differently to the plan! What we are achieving collectively in our homes is remarkable! Thank you IPS community – you rock!

Thank you to our school and teaching staff who are also juggling the above, whilst maintaining the connectedness to the class dynamic, providing many children with their only social contact with peers and continuing to teach and engage with passion and energy. We are lucky to have you – thank you!
