Book Nooks and student work in the Library

This week the Library has been filling up with children’s work which we absolutely love! We now have numerous book nooks sitting on our shelves and the students (and staff) are enjoying going around the shelves and seeing our students’ creativity. ”Ohh, look at this one!” is a common sentence we are hearing lately.  Junior School students have been making these book nooks during their art lessons under the watchful, creative and guiding eye of Mrs Duff.  Ms Ross’s Year Nine Gifted and Talented students have also made book nooks and they are displayed as well. We excited to showcase some Year Three and Four artwork.

Year Four Bedrooms – The Year Fours have been learning about the basics of one- and two-point perspective. They used this knowledge to draw and paint their own bedrooms. It is quite a challenging task and they have done very well to identify the vanishing point and orthogonal lines. They have also been practising their painting skills, in particular, blending and mixing to capture detail. (Mrs Duff)

Year Three Landscapes- The Year Three students have been learning about Monet and the Impressionists in Visual Arts. Students chose a landscape photograph from our Great Southern region to paint in an Impressionist style. We focused on capturing colour and light and different ways of mixing and applying paint. (Mrs Duff)

The Years One and Two students worked with the Year Nine Japanese elective students and Mrs Shuko Doyle to create some beautiful “Ki rig a mi” artwork. This involves folding and cutting paper.

The Years One and Five students have their playground designs displayed in the front foyer of the Library.

Many of the projects above have seen collaboration between year groups. Students are accountable to one another and, with appropriate direction, learn to self-manage this. These activities help with the development of higher-level thinking, oral communication, self-management, and leadership skills, whilst increasing a student’s learning retention, self-esteem, responsibility and an understanding of diverse perspectives.
