Teaching and Learning

Thank you!

The staff at Miners Rest K-6 would like to acknowledge the support that our families are providing our students during the current lockdown. Learning from home, and being supervised onsite, can present challenges and opportunities and we thank you all for your commitment to ensuring that our children have positive learning experiences during this time. Communication is a crucial element in experiencing positive learning whether learning from home or being supervised onsite.

Communicating with your child

We encourage you to start and finish each day with a simple check-in.

These questions allow your child to process the instructions they get from their teachers and help them organise themselves and set priorities.

Checking-in regularly with your child throughout the day may also, depending on their independence and learning needs, be beneficial.

Morning check-ins

  • What are you learning today? Check the daily schedule together and discuss the expectations.
  • What are your learning goals? What are you going to be focusing on?
  • How will you be spending your time? Let's make a plan!
  • What resources do you need? Let's get organised!
  • What support do you need? Support with positive encouragement.

Afternoon check-ins

  • What did you learn today? tell me more about that.
  • What was challenging? What could you do if the same problem comes up again?
  • Share three things that went well today. Why were they good?
  • Are you going okay with your learning? Do you need to ask your teacher for something? Do you need help with something to make tomorrow more successful?
