Principal's Report

Positive mindset is key...

Capital Works progressing well

We are very excited with the progress of our capital works project, part B.

In the coming weeks we will have a completed, brand new playground outside Davey building.

We are looking forward to handover of our refurbished Brady Building, which will be our new Library and community drop-in centre.  At the same time, it will be exciting to have our Year 5/6 students and staff gain access to their new Senior Learning Centre layout - getting them all back together.

Landscaping continues, connecting old and new sites as well planting out many new landscaped spaces.  A new staff car park is starting to take shape, and will probably be one of the last items to be completed.  This will assist parking for all families, obviously.

We are awaiting 'way finding' signage as well as many other finishing touches, that I'm sure you will all notice in the coming months.

Home & School respect

Respectful relationships are vital in all aspects of life.  Supporting children / students is everyone's responsibility, as an adult.  Children are sponges, particularly when it comes to picking up on mood, tone of voice, expressions, expletives, body language and alike.

Please be mindful of who is imitating you and your interactions with others.

We are working hard to gain the best outcomes for your child/ren, in trying circumstances and we truly appreciate you always speaking positively of the school, staff and education more broadly.

If you have a query, concern or complaint, please don't hesitate to get in touch with one of our friendly Administration team or myself, to seek support from the most appropriate person.

We will always try to help...

Student Led Conferences

Next Tuesday 31 August is a student free day from school, to support Student Led Conferences.  The vital meetings occur between 12noon - 7:00pm to assist working families with access to their teachers.

Please follow the instructions in the below attachment, to register.

It is critical that all families connect for the conferences.

The booking instructions can also be found on the Administration page.

Community looking outward

In tough and challenging times, some people absolutely shine!

I will spare a number of families the embarrassment of naming wonderful deeds they've completed recently, but I can say, their outward and beautiful approach to supporting others is amazing and we appreciate it.

The people concerned will hopefully know of whom I speak, but cooking goodies, providing gifts of appreciation etc. are wonderful symbolisms of gratitude beyond expectation.

Thank you!

Current challenges

It is important we acknowledge current challenges we are all facing, in many ways.  Please look after yourselves and continue to remain positive wherever possible.

No-one could foresee the world's current plight, but I do know Miners Rest community is an extremely supportive and optimistic one - please don't lose that.

There are often far from ideal scenarios thrown up at us, but we have choice.  Choosing the positive path will stand you in great stead, and importantly, drive the path forward for you and your child/ren.

It's easy to become a keyboard warrior, or a victim, or choose negative.  We can however, choose positive and thrive, even when things don't seem great.  Children will continue to grow, learn and display resilience beyond our expectations, please trust in those around you and remain shining lights in our community, when our children need us most.

Baby news

Congratulations to Matthew (Mr Smith) and Eliza on the birth of their second child, a girl,

on Monday at 10:48am!   Illyana Rose Smith arrived, weighing 6 pound 8 ounces in the old measure and 49cm long and is little sister to Riley.  All are doing well.

Congratulations Smith clan, from all of us here in the Miners Rest K-6 community.

I acknowledge the First Peoples of the Wathaurong, who are the traditional custodians of the land and waters on which I work and live, and pay my respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
