Reading and Viewing

This term we will be integrating our Inquiry Unit “Our Country, Our History” through our reading content. Explored texts will expose students to information related to this topic,  aspects and  significant events of our Australian history.

Texts formats will be  multimodal or written. Explored texts will be investigated in a variety of ways.  We will provide experiences to promote discussion and use higher order thinking skills to infer about the author's intent to support a deeper understanding.  Analysis, critical thinking, and constructive feedback shall be included as part of our reading skills.

Guided reading groups sessions will focus on instructional reading strategies at students’ point of need. The students will also be supported through their Individual Reading Conference goals that they set.

Writing

The focus for writing this term will be writing to entertain and persuade. Writing to entertain will allow students to present information through historical narratives and biographies about significant historical happenings of the earlier settlement of Australia. They will present their writing in the form of newspaper articles using relevant structure  and language  features including grammar.  Students will continue to develop their skills in debating and learn how to rebut an argument, whilst strengthening their persuasive language.
