MATHEMATICS DURING REMOTE LEARNING - WHAT DO OUR STUDENTS SAY ARE THE POSITIVES?

As we enter another week of Remote Learning I invite you to take the time to reflect on how your mathematics learning is going. What has gone well? What has been challenging? What has been a new experience?

Whilst it is easy to focus on the negatives about completing mathematics tasks in Remote Learning I have been very interested in listening to some of the students talk about what they have enjoyed about Mathematics during Remote Learning. At this challenging time, I thought it would be great if these comments were available for everyone to hear.

From the students

  • I love working with mum and dad on my tasks - sometimes they don't know all the answers and I get to explain it to them
  • Being able to work at my own pace helps the learning stay in my brain
  • Discussing questions with my friends on a Hangout and on the phone helps me understand some questions
  • I like not worrying about whether the other students are looking at me and judging me
  • Sometimes it easier to ask for help now than it is in the classroom
  • If I do my maths task first I get it out of the way

Thanks

Indigenous Literacy Day

Wednesday 1st September is Indigenous Literacy Day.  This day provides a window into the richness, diversity and multilingual world of First Nations peoples, through storytelling.   You may wish to explore the stories shared at https://www.ild.org.au/?_ga=2.159375226.1914397682.1630120973-388005017.1630120973

As a staff, our now postponed Professional Learning Day scheduled for Thursday 2nd September included a cultural walk and storytelling with Indigenous Elder Uncle Bill Nicholson.  We hope to be able to re-schedule this day soon.

Premiers' Reading Challenge 2021

Well done to all of our students that have been enjoying their reading and recording all the books that they have read!  Keep up the great work!

We still have a few weeks to complete the challenge.  Looking forward to watching your progress.
