REMARKABLE READING
We have just passed 200 nights for 2021. That means there are still well over 100 nights to go until we have our reading nights pizza party in term 4 this year. Well done to the students who have already or are close to reaching this goal. They have a ticket to the Reading Nights party ready when they return! Don’t forget to keep reading and recording to make sure you get to attend the 40 nights reading celebration this term. Make sure you come and see me when you get back for your photo or to move your star up our Reading Nights Data Wall.
OLYMPICS AT SPS
On Friday 6th August we will be holding our SPS Olympics Day. Unfortunately due to restrictions having parents on site we are unable to run the Meal Deal. We will have the Meal Deal as soon as we can get parents back on site.
The day will be plenty of fun with an opening ceremony in the morning where each grade will parade around with their countries flag and anthem.
We will have events in the middle block including goal shooting (basketball), beanbag throwing (shot put), Chicken Chuck (javelin), 100 metre sprint (SPS distances) and hurdles (very low). I promise we are not throwing the actual chickens in the prep area (as one junior asked) but rubber chickens!!!
After lunch we have the medal presentations and the closing ceremony. At the closing ceremony our SPS Got Talent winners will perform.
It should be a great day for everyone and I will take plenty of photos to show you how the day goes.
A mammoth Thank You to the Somerville Secondary College students for making our medals using the laser cutter for our upcoming Olympics Games this Friday. You can watch the video below showing the process.
SOMERVILLE SLAMMERS BASKETBALL CLUB
What an amazing start we have had to our Somerville Slammers Basketball Club. We currently have 5 teams playing in the Saturday competition at Somerville Stadium.
