Whole School Expectation- Weekly Focus for Students

Be responsible: Complete your learning tasks to the best of your ability.

Keeping Children at Home and Staff Vaccination

Thank you for the amazing effort of most parents to keep your children at home while stay at home orders remain in place. While students are always our first priority, the safety of staff is also very important.

All school staff members are required to be fully vaccinated by 8 November and we are well on the way with more than half fully vaccinated and most others having had the first shot.

Please be very aware that St Joseph’s is also a workplace and staff put themselves at risk to provide supervision for students. We happily do this for students who have absolutely no other choice than to be at school. Sending your child to school because it is convenient or because they choose to be at school is the wrong thing to do and not in line with stay at home orders.

When can I send my child to school for supervision?

The current Public Health Order makes it clear that it is only acceptable to “leave home for education if it is not possible to do it at home”

In line with this government directive, families are only able to send their children to school at this time if there is absolutely no option for them to learn from home. There are reasons this may be the case:

  • Every responsible person in your household, besides children, is an essential worker e.g.
    • frontline health worker or
    • in another occupation that requires you to physically attend a work location during school hours, parents who work at home should always consider the responsibility to keep children at home
  • Your child has pastoral care needs, discussed with the principal
  • There are other extenuating circumstances, discussed with the principal

Students have access to the same learning materials and experience whether they are at school or at home, and there is no advantage for students who are supervised at school.

IMPORTANT ACTION- Record of Attendance During Remote Learning

Attendance at school is a legal obligation for parents and recording attendance is a legal obligation for the school.

While students are in remote learning, you are responsible for ensuring your child has signed in each day before 12:00 pm using:

Once your child’s attendance is logged using one of the above links, the school will then record your child’s attendance on the legal Roll.

If you do not ensure your child has signed in they will be marked on the Roll as "Absent".

If your child cannot engage in remote learning for the day due to illness or for another reason, please contact the school office via email at info@sjbdow.catholic.edu.au or phone 42831111.

At the moment, the school office staff is spending too much time chasing up attendance so please do your part in meeting your obligations as a parent.
