R.E. NEWS

EASTER

Easter is the celebration of Christ's resurrection from the dead. It was celebrated on Easter Sunday, and marks the end of Holy Week. It is the last day of the Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday). Jesus’ resurrection marks the triumph of good over evil, sin and death. The Easter Season concludes on the Feast of Pentecost.

ANZAC DAY March

On ANZAC Day our school leaders Isabella Brydon, Wallace Robinson, Phuc Ho and Keyondre Smith represented St Edward's at the 2022 ANZAC Day March and Memorial Service at the Town Hall. They were excellent ambassadors for our school and we thank them for representing our school so proudly at this special event. Hopefully next year we will be able to march as a whole school once again.

"Being able to participate in the Anzac day march this year was a massive honour. Everyone was respectful and it was amazing to be able to represent our school and lay an Anzac Day wreath." - Isabella Brydon (School Captain)

Mother’s Day Celebrations

We invite all of our families to join us in celebrating everything wonderful about our mums on Friday 6th May. Our celebration will be held at the Primary Campus commencing at 12.30pm with a Prayer Celebration in the Hall.  After this, we invite all families to bring a picnic lunch to share with their children. The Infants children will be transported by bus to and from the Primary Campus (Please ensure you have given permission for bus travel via Compass). This is a beautiful opportunity to celebrate our gorgeous mums and we hope to see you there!

LIBRARY NEWS

Book Fair

Dive into reading!

Book Fair is the most popular event in the library calendar and is always eagerly anticipated by our students.

Starting today at the Infants (and Primary next week), we will be hosting our annual Book Fair. It will run through Week 1 and 2 at each campus. This is always a very exciting time for our students (last year voted the favourite library event of the year!), and it is also a fabulous way to support our library with new books as proceeds from sales are earned by the school.

Each class will have a viewing time and will bring a 'Wish List' home for communication and discussion with families. Next week, there will be a 'buying' day opportunity on each campus.

Primary:  Wednesday, 4th May

Infants:   Thursday, 5th May

Doors open at 8.00am for parents and carers (and their children).

Or students will visit throughout the day with their class.

1000 Books Before School

It is with great excitement that we can now begin the St Edward's '1000 Before School' Project for 2022 - calling all students enrolled to start Kindergarten at St Edward's next year. The positives of sharing 1000 books before school are:

  1. An introduction to a wide set of vocabulary for children to become familiar with, through both seeing and hearing the words.
  2. Seeing the mechanics of how a book 'works', turning pages, left to right sequencing, front to back....
  3. Informal discussion of the story and talking about the illustrations, what might happen next, how does it make you feel....
  4. Connecting reading with another person as a 'feel good' thing that will encourage reading as a nurturing and positive experience that enhances a love of books and reading (this really is most effective in creating a reader!)
  5. Making reading a priority that highlights its importance as a leisure activity.

How our Project will work:

  1. Come to the front office to register your child for the program.
  2. Grab a bag of books. The bag will include 6 books and a card (with some discussion starters for one of the books, some tips on how to engage your child with reading and a list of the books included in that bag).
  3. Take the bag home and read, read, read with your child.
  4. After reading the books, return the bag to the office with all the included items and swap for a new bag, as often as you like.
  5. The same expectations as any library service will be in place: the books remain the property of St Edward's Primary School, the books need to be returned in the same condition they were loaned, everything in the bag needs to be included when returned.

This is a really exciting program for St Edward's in our mission to support our students and families for as much success at school as they can possibly get from Day 1, so please take advantage of as much, or as little, as your family schedules can allow.

What day is the library open on each campus?

Primary:  Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday every week.

Infants:   Thursday and Friday every week.

Both campuses are open:

From 8.15am for Early Bird reading and sticker collecting;

and Recess and Lunch in playtime for reading, drawing and various clubs.

See you in the Library,

Ms Annie
