Anzac Day Commemoration

 At Kildare Catholic College

On Tuesday 26th April, Kildare held an Anzac Day ceremony to remember and respect all those who have served in the armed forces to defend and protect our nations and citizens in times of conflict and in places of peace-keeping. Year 7 and 12 students participated with reverence from in front of the flag poles, while the remainder of the College watched via Live Stream.

This year’s ceremony was made extra special by the inclusion of our very own cadets; Jakob Brown, Miguel Quitola, Robert Kennedy and Archer Laurent. Under the leadership of Jakob, the cadets displayed some impressive marching skills.

We were also fortunate to have a guest speaker, Mr Glen White, Warrant Officer (Class One) at Kapooka. Glen focused his address on what Anzac means for the young people and what it means to be part of the service today. Glen is the father of Zaylee (Year 8) and Mitchell (Year 11).

Thank you to Year 12 SRC members for their leadership of the ceremony. In particular, Joe Munro, Oskar Byrne, Sebastian McCorry and Tyrone Vatubuli. Thank you also to the singers Tyrone Vatubuli, Abbey Anderson, Mischa Case, Charlotte Fox, Lily Chisholm, Poppy Gray, Zoe Crawford and Oskar Byrne on guitar. A special mention to Tyrone and Oskar for a very moving rendition of the ballad ‘I was only 19’.

I would also like to thank our College Captains, Josie Carroll and Gus Goodyer, and fellow SRC members Siobhan Flanagan, Cooper Clarke, Ava Mallise, Joe Munro and Phoebe Hartley who gave up their time to represent the College at the Wagga Anzac Day service on Monday 25 April.
