Principal Message

On behalf of the Kildare Catholic College community we extend prayer and best wishes to all mothers and in our community for your special day this Sunday. We know you certainly are appreciated for all you do for us, who you are to us and we hope your family is able to spoil you as you deserve.

This week has been again significantly impacted with Covid and associated consequences for many staff and students. We have averaged well over 20 staff away each day this week and a significant number of students Year 7-12 have notified us they have Covid. It is an important time to realise that precautions such as hand sanitizing and social distancing are highly recommended as is the wearing of masks. As a school we are continuing with extra cleaning.

I am very mindful that all of this places great pressure on staff and students and their families at this time. It is an important time to reach out and care for each other as so many are having a tough time. We are here to support you in many ways and can do so if we are made aware. Please feel free to let us know.

Enrolments Thank you to the many families who have managed to get applications in by the 2nd may deadline. Your confidence in what the college is offering and delivering is heartening for everyone. Places have filled fast. CEDWW processes around information and fees have meant we cant process an application if documentation is not complete.

I have had it put to me in general terms that such processes are all very well and given someone has had other children enrolled they’ll be taken anyway. Unfortunately due to demand and processes in place that may not be the case. It will be really concerning if students miss out.  If there are applications out there please get them in by the end of next week 10/5. If you have friends you know who haven't put the application in please remind them.

Student Success It has been a terrific week in sport and other activities with students having considerable success.

Our AFL teams in the Carroll Cup and junior girls  competition have had good early wins despite many student absences. They have some tougher matches ahead and are hopeful of continuing success. Well done so far!

Our daVinci Decathlon teams had a terrific day at The Riverina Anglican College with our Year 11 team coming away winners. They now progress to the state level which is now online due to Covid. The da Vinci Decathlon is an academic competition designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of school students. Students compete in teams of eight across 10 disciplines: engineering, mathematics and chess, code breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy.

Uniform Consultations are continuing as we develop the new college uniform for 2023 onwards. Within the next few weeks we will put out a consultation survey to gather student and parent views about the options available. We are confident there is a broad range for students to choose from.

In regards to winter uniform this term we now should have all students in winter uniform as of this coming Monday 9/5/22.

Strategic Planning Starting next week we have Dr Michael Slattery from Pine Park Consulting, a very experienced former principal and Diocesan leader in Catholic Education at the college, working with us to develop our strategic plan to guide our work across the college for the next three years. He will be working with staff students and our college council for initial consultations . From the distillation of this information we will then survey broadly through our community for validation purposes.

We look forward to the thinking about our future that this work will inspire as we strive to become the best school we can be for the students of the future.
