Principal's Report

Dear school community,

Welcome back to Term 2 and it has been such a great start to the term. The students have settled well into their learning routines and are getting lots of learning done. Staff are working hard to prepare students for the Culminating Events during which families are invited to celebrate students learning. Please be on the lookout for invitations to visit the school during weeks 5 and 6 of this term.

Our staff have been involved with the school review process and the review team were blown away by the teaching and learning in classrooms as well as the caring nature of our staff. The review team visited most classrooms and met most of our students. This was a great opportunity to showcase our school values of Care, Courage and Cooperation. The feedback from staff was overwhelmingly positive in their impact on student learning which is getting traction through Professional Learning Team meetings.

Labour Day on Monday is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers. I want to use this opportunity to celebrate all of our wonderful, dedicated and hard working staff. The hours each staff member puts in, in addition to their normal work hours, to ensure all of our students are able to access, engage and achieve in their learning in just remarkable. The patience and understanding that our staff demonstrate during all interactions with each other and students is commendable. Our school is ‘the place to be’. One community member explained to a school reviewer yesterday that we are not just a school but rather, we are a community. I don’t believe anybody could have summed it up better who we are as a school. Thank you. We believe that all students will be able to be successful through meaningful community engagement.

Next week we will be promoting Privacy Week. This year’s Privacy Awareness Week, is a reminder to everyone about the importance of protecting personal information. It is critical that we handle our personal information with integrity and care. There are simple things we can do as an individual to build a foundation of trust. Your personal information is extremely valuable. This is your identity and foundation of who you are, so protect it. Make sure you trust who you share your information with. Make sure that you check that the organisation or person is who they say they are and that they have a good reputation. If the situation looks suspicious, don’t risk it. Be sure to update your devices and applications to fix issues and address new security concerns. Set up and perform regular backups so you don’t lose your personal information, should something go wrong. Many websites, apps and devices share your personal information by default. Check if you are sharing any information that you’d rather keep private. Consider limiting location tracking, deleting or not accepting cookies and choosing your advertising preferences. Destroy personal information before throwing it out and wipe data from old devices. The same applies online – make sure you delete accounts and emails you no longer need. Sometimes things go wrong. If your privacy is breached, act quickly to limit your risk of harm. Steps you can take include changing your passphrases, watching out for scams and checking your accounts for suspicious activity.

Thank you to all of our staff and students who attended the ANZAC march on Monday. Due to the rain,  the school turnout was not as big as in previous years. I hope we are able to unite in bigger numbers next year.

Our P&C hosted a well-received sausage sizzle during ‘Meet the Teacher Evening’ and we had quite a number of families attend.

We hope to grow in numbers as the concerns around Covid ease. I am also inviting suggestions from our families as to how we can improve on community engagement. What will work for you as a working or staying home parent?

Thank you to all families for your support of our amazing school. I appreciate and value everything you do.

Kind regards,

Dehlia
