Year 11 Learning

OHS and Work Skills

The VCAL Work Related Skills units have been developed to recognise learning that is valued within community and work environments as preparation for employment.  The Year 11 students have been introduced to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards for the workplace and are beginning to apply their understanding in their Work Related Skills programs each Thursday.

SMP – Students have been attending the Kevin Heinze Garden in Doncaster, focusing on skills required for the Horticulture industry.  Skills of weeding, pruning, planting, and ground maintenance have been developed.

STC – The class has been working in the Manufacturing industry at Endeavour Foundation in Keon Park.  Students have had experience in packaging goods, despatching stock and processing orders.

SJS - As a volunteer service, the students in this class have been undertaking a cleaning contract at a local church.  The students have been developing essential cleaning skills such as safely using cleaning chemicals and equipment, paying attention to detail when cleaning, and working independently.  These skills are essential both in the workplace and at home.

The Year 11 classes will rotate through each of these programs on a term basis throughout the year.
