From the Principal

Over the past fortnight we have witnessed many special events that will become long lasting memories for members of our College community.  The celebration of the feast day of St Augustine, was another opportunity for our College to reflect on our history and the message of faith that has inspired St Augustine’s for many years.  It was great to see so many families join us on the oval to share in a meal with their children and other families.

Last Sunday we witnessed standing room only, as many children participated in our Sacramental Program as they made their First Eucharist.  This step in their faith journey could not have been possible without the support of their families, staff members and also the Parish.  I would like to thank Alma Limbrick for the continued support and guidance that she provides to all those involved in our Sacramental Program.  We continue to pray for our sacramental children as they journey towards making their Confirmation.

On Wednesday we celebrated the special event of our Lone Pine ceremony.  This was our 20 year anniversary of celebrating Lone Pine at St Augustine’s.  It was a special time to commemorate and celebrate such an important event in our history.  Listening to Jett Guiney and Abbey Shortis share their feelings about this event was truly inspiring and hope filled.

We all know that trees are a vital part of our lives.  As the biggest plants on the planet, trees give us oxygen, store carbon, stabilise the soil and give life to the world’s wildlife, however this tree does more than that.  This tree tells a story, a story of sacrifice, a story of horror, a story of courage, and most importantly, a story that we will continue to both respect and share, which has now become our ongoing legacy here at St Augustine’s.

As we gathered alongside our veterans, widows, members from Legacy, members of our local community, and our staff and student body, I could not help but feel a sense of deep pride.  Pride of the past, pride of the present and pride for the future.  So, as we walk past this special tree, today and into the future, we continue to do so with that great sense of pride.

Like any living creature, we flourish when well nurtured.  So, as a College community, we welcome again the commitment to the guardianship of our Lone Pine tree, because it is legacies such as this, that make us the proud community that we truly are.

I would like to thank all those involved in making this such a special event and in particular I would like to thank Gavon Armstrong for his ongoing support and coordination to support our Lone Pine Ceremony.
