Term Four
Welcome
Dear Parents
We are in the home stretch with Term 4! Hopefully you are recharged from the holidays and your children are excited about the final term for the year.
Thank you as always and three cheers for all the parent volunteers who listen to the children read. It is of invaluable benefit for our Year 2 children. A sign-up sheet is posted outside your child’s classroom for Term 4 reading.
Term 3 highlights
The students thoroughly enjoyed learning about our Inquiry topic: Water Works. Our Mad About Science Incursion about water and sustainability was extremely educational and fun. The children learnt about the water cycle, how to look after our precious water supplies and the many uses of water in our country.
Curriculum
Reading:
Comprehension will continue to be a focus in reading this term.
Deeper concepts like thinking beyond the text, compare and contrasting and discussing the author’s intent will be explored in class.
Writing:
The focus this term will be Information Reports and Procedural texts.
Spelling:
Each week the students will focus on spelling common words, looking at different spelling strategies and continue to explore different letter blends.
Speaking and Listening: The children will continue with News Reports. Information on both the topics and dates of presentation will be sent home in Week 1.
Mathematics:
In Mathematics we will be exploring different units of 2D and 3D shapes, Length, Area, Volume and Capacity and the operations of Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division.
Unit of Inquiry:
This term our Inquiry Unit is entitled :
Grand Designs
The students will explore how to visualise, generate, and communicate design ideas through, drawing, describing and modelling. They will use materials, tools, equipment and techniques to produce design solutions safely.
Looking ahead...
Parents and carers should have received information regarding the Year 2 sleepover. Please take special note of the clothing requirements so your child is not burdened by carrying too much on the night. Please make sure all forms have been filled in, signed and returned to your child’s teacher ASAP or by October 12th. Please also
check your COMPASS permission and payment have been completed. Thank you.
