Chinese New Year Celebrations at Bimbadeen

The Lunar New Year was on February 12 this year. It is the year of the Ox. If you were born in the years 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009 or 2021 then 2021 is your Chinese zodiac year. According to Chinese culture, if you were born in the year of the Ox then you are likely to be strong, reliable, fair and conscientious.

At Bimbadeen, we celebrated Chinese New Year by taking our school Dragon puppet for a tour of the school yard, accompanied by colourful fans and the sounds of cymbals and drums. Thank you to those students in Grade 5 and 6 who volunteered to take part in our school yard Chinese New Year parade on Tuesday at lunch time this week. It was a very fun and exciting occasion for the whole school.

In Chinese lessons, students in Grades 3-6 also made colourful Dancing Lion puppets as part of our continuing exploration of this important Chinese festival. We learnt about the values represented by Chinese Dancing Lions: Courage, Virtue, Mateship and Respect. We were amazed by how close these values are to our school values: Resilience, Integrity, Compassion and Respect.

What a fantastic way to start of our New Year of Chinese studies!
