Faith and Mission Report

“Jules Chevalier understood that persevering effort in the face of obstacles will pay off eventually.

He had learned that if the effort is made selflessly, with readiness to seek and accept God’s will then God will make things possible even if he does not make them easy.” – EJ Cuskelly, MSC

During this time of lent, it is important for us to realise the above message is true at all times, God will be with us, but things will not always be easy. Our students were reminded of this during our Ash Wednesday / Lent liturgy, which was unfortunately forced to go online due to another lockdown. Our College Captains and Vice Captains adapted quickly, and a wonderful online liturgy was presented. The main message from this liturgy is to encourage our students to “Be More”, that is give up doing the minimum, and step up to be more. This can be accessed by the following link:

Monivae College Ash Wednesday Liturgy 2021

It has been an extremely busy start for the Faith and Mission Team.

The Opening Mass took place on Wednesday the 10th of February, with Father Bob Irwin MSC saying the mass, and Father Ted McCormack MSC assisting. It is pleasing to have the MSC in our school, and Father Bob’s homily was one that all students still talk about.

Our theme of Friendship was built upon during the mass and will be part of everything we do this year. Our Year 7s then had a year level liturgy, where the finer points of masses and liturgies were explained, helping them understand what we do and why we do it. Our Year 11s completed their liturgy on Friday, and the other year levels will get an opportunity throughout the year to participate in liturgies in our lovely chapel.

After running a successful bbq at the athletics sports, where Coco Christie-Crane and Emma Sadler helped out all day, the athletics carnival proved to be another busy day at the bbq. Our year 11 students in Maggie Doyle, Bella Nicholls, Talei Malady and Ruby Cook stepped up to show servant leadership. Thanks girls.

The importance of our MSC ethos is recognised when we get the opportunity to provide our staff with spiritual formation. Each staff member can have their own spiritual formation plan, part of which includes time at Douglass Park. Mrs Fiona Mulhall has just completed more formation this week, and there will be upcoming formation for staff in the near future.
