From the Principal

The Presentation Sisters have 'compassion' as one of their key values and here at St Mary's College, we have adopted it as one of our  touchstones.

This year, we are using compassion as our theme and we have started talking about it with students across the College.

As adults, it is great for us to model compassion for our children and young people. A really good way to do this is for us to 'mind our own business', as my mum would say!

Renowned spiritual leader and author, don Miguel Ruiz said it a bit more eloquently when he wrote The Four Agreements

  1. Be impeccable with your word.
  2. Don't make assumptions.
  3. Always do your best.
  4. Don't take anything personally.

I am pretty sure our world would be more compassionate if we all enacted these four agreements. Our Senior School shared this prayer last week: 'Be kind, for everyone is fighting a hard battle'.—Plato.

Heavenly Father,
We live in a world where we're so overcome with our problems, that we forget our neighbour may be suffering too. Lord, fill us with compassion for our fellow humans; help us to see them as you do. Give us a heart to love them and support them through their trials. It's the only way to live, Lord, loving our neighbour as we love ourselves. In Jesus' name, we pray...
Amen
