Year 7 Camp - Slattery

Tom Doyle (11 Slattery)

In Week three, the Year 7 boys all went on camp to Maranatha Recreation Camp in Yandina, accompanied by sixteen Year 11 boys, their Heads of House, and a Pastoral Group teacher. Spencer Hollett and I were the two boys selected to go with Slattery, along with Ms Wandell and Ms Stevens.

When we got there, the boys were pretty impressed with their air-conditioned cabins but were quickly hurried to their first activity for the camp, “Rocket Ball”. The boys all participated in this activity and all other activities very well. They worked well as a team from the start. Our instructor, “Mango”, was great and did an excellent job at getting the boys to engage in the activities and tried to push them to their limits, doing many things that were way out of their comfort zones.

It was evident that by the end of the camp, all the boys, including Spencer and I, had learnt valuable lessons about teamwork, leadership and pushing ourselves to our limits.

Thanks to the Maranatha crew, the Heads of Houses, the teachers, Mr Apps, and the boys for a great week.
