Chaplain’s Corner

Jesus is very clear about what is demanded of his followers – they must take up their cross every day and follow him. As we begin our Lenten journey, we are reminded that the ascetical practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving should not be reserved only for Lent but should characterise our everyday lives. Are we walking the way of the cross in imitation of Jesus or are walking a different path? Jesus concludes with a challenging question: ‘what will we have gained if we have won the whole world and have lost or ruined our very self? Today let us ask ourselves honestly: ‘Who are we following – Christ or the world? Lord, help us to follow you. Teach us to love and accept each day the renunciations asked of us for the well-being of others.

Mary, our Good Mother, pray for us.
St. Marcellin Champagnat, pray for us.
St. Mary of the Cross, pray for us.
And may we always remember to pray for one another.

Reflection for Lenten season

Give up harsh words: use generous ones.
Give up unhappiness: take up gratitude.
Give up anger: take up gentleness and patience.
Give up pessimism: take up hope and optimism.
Give up worrying: take up trust in God.
Give up complaining: value what you have.
Give up stress: take up prayer.
Give up judging others: discover Jesus within them.
Give up sorrow and bitterness: fill your heart with joy.
Give up selfishness: take up compassion for others.
Give up being unforgiving: learn reconciliation.
Give up words: fill yourself with silence, and listen to others.

Community Mass and Reconciliation

Community Mass - Wednesday 8:00am

Reconciliation - Tuesday 8:00am

Students and staff are welcome to Mass on Wednesday morning at 8:00am in the College Chapel. Fr Tini is also available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation every Tuesday morning at 8:00am. This Wednesday, 24 February we invite all members of the College St Vincent de Paul group to attend 8:00am Mass.

Year 5 Welcome Liturgy

We were delighted to welcome our Year 5 students with a special liturgy last week.

At this liturgy, the students were introduced to the Sub Tuum as a prayer that is special to us as Marists. The students were each given a keyring with the image of St Marcellin Champagnat – this is to remind the young men that they are welcome and belong here at Marist College Ashgrove.

Shrove Tuesday

Special thanks to the staff who helped cook hundreds of pancakes for the St Vincent de Paul Shrove Tuesday stalls. All the money raised from these sales will go toward our Lenten Fundraising.
