Prep Guy

We have been so busy learning over the past two weeks. In Reading we have learnt how to find information in non fiction texts, visualise what we are reading and how to use the decoding strategy of stretchy snake which reminds us to give all the letters sounds and run those sounds together. In Writing/ Spelling we have learnt how to write a letter to our Grade six buddies, ( which we hand delivered) all about the THRASS boxes f and g and we have learnt how to write a compound sentence using sky, grass and dirt paper. In Maths we continued our work on addition with students learning how to add single digit numbers using ten frames, friends of ten and drawing pictures to solve addition equations.

We LOVED our excursion to Dinosaur World and learnt so much information about dinosaurs. We managed to answer all our questions that we thought of back at school. This week we also learnt about Reconciliation Week where we learnt about Indigenous shared histories, cultures and achievements, and we explored how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. We decorated hearts which will be displayed in the Bunyip Kindergarten with their students learning about this too.

Student Of The Week

Last week our Student Of The Week was Evie. Evie was voted by her classmates because students said she is so kind.

This week students voted for Charlie because they said Charlie so respectful and responsible.

1/2 Smith and 1/2 Stoll

We have had a very busy two weeks in our classrooms! We can’t believe how quickly the term is flying by!

Our Student Achievers in Mrs Smith’s classroom over the last fortnight are Alex and Aisha! Well done Alex and Aisha, you are champions!

Our Student Achievers in Ms Stoll’s classroom over the last fortnight are Cooper and Charlotte! Great work Coop and Char, you are superstars!

Visiting Dinosaur World was the highlight of our fortnight! All that waiting… and then Thursday finally came, all students, staff and helpers were buzzing for a fun filled day exploring everything DINOSAUR!

A highlight for both grades was definitely the palaeontologist activity, students searched through sand, found a fossil and then used different tools to crack open their fossil. The gasps, cheers and excited voices and laughs we heard during this activity were truly heart-warming. Each grade then cut a few laps of the dinosaur park on a mini train, this was so much fun and students giggled and cheered as we saw different dinosaurs, some even moved as we drove past them! The third activity for the day involved a walk through the dinosaur park, where students were informed about different dinosaur facts. During this time, students got to hold and look at a real Spinosaurus tooth! We felt like we were truly at Jurassic Park… without having to worry about being eaten of course. Well, except for the geese. If you know, you know.

The CASEA team are still spending time in our classrooms, students are learning about the different zones whilst also exploring how our body may feel or respond to certain emotions. We have also been exploring puppets and case studies that correlate with each of the coloured zones to support students to identify their own emotions and those of their peers and others around them.

We’re super excited to end Term 2 on a high note, we cannot believe we will be halfway through the school year in just 3 weeks.
