Captains Corner

From our College Captains Abigail and Kate

Reconciliation Week is about creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We all have a role to play in reconciliation, and Clayfield played its part last week when we participated in the Reconciliation Round to end the autumn sports fixtures.

Our Touch, Football, and Basketball teams all played great games whilst wearing our amazing Reconciliation Round uniforms. The enthusiasm and spirit on the field was incredible to be a part of, and we are so proud of all our athletes who helped us play our part in celebrating Indigenous peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.

Thank you to all the girls who showed up to play the last round of autumn fixtures, we appreciate your dedication, and playing alongside you has been so much fun.

JB Talbot-Cooke an Indigenous senior on the Opens Football team says: ‘I am beyond proud of all the girls that participated during the Reconciliation Round. Your spirit and determination have shown through in each and every game. It was an honour to be able to wear the Indigenous-designed jerseys and showcase our diversity by embracing my people’s culture. This is something I am very passionate about, and seeing the overwhelmingly positive reactions when the jerseys were revealed was amazing and uplifting. As an Aboriginal woman, I am so very happy that Clayfield College has continued to encourage us to celebrate and cultivate our culture.’
