Learn what opportunities our students have been taking on
Mrs Rook's Year 11 VCE Business Management class have completed a SAC which involved creating a 3D shop. For their design, the students had to consider areas such as business identification, internal layout, verbal and non-verbal messages and first impressions. The students created businesses including cafes, a zoo, a butcher, a beauty salon, a record store and a sports store.
Well done!
Congratulations to all the students who completed the Bright Sparks program that concluded last Wednesday. It was great to have lots of energy and smiling faces visit St Brigid's every Wednesday afternoon for the past 4 weeks!
Thank you to all the teachers and staff who made the program possible, and to the parents and to the students for getting involved.
See you next time!
Last week, our Year 11 cohort spent 3 nights in Adelaide for the Social Justice Retreat. Students Scarlett Munday-Terry & Isaac Arnold have reflected on their experiences:
The Year 11 Social Justice Retreat had a huge impact on all of us this year as we were confronted with the harsh normality of homelessness in Australia and how homelessness is different for everyone for a majority of reasons. We learnt about what social justice is and how we can participate in social justice by volunteering in op shops, being a part of Young Vinnies and donating necessities like clothing and non-perishable food. On Thursday, we all travelled to different not-for-profit agencies to learn about what they do. We had some of the boys learning about men in rehab for addictions, some of the girls went to Catherine House to hear about how they provide long-term accommodation for women experiencing homelessness, and the rest of the students went to Treasure Boxes to learn, organise and help pack boxes full of necessities for those in need.
Throughout the 4 days of Retreat, the Year 11 students all came together to learn about this issue that is right at our front door and have come out more empathic toward others.
The Year 11 Social Justice Retreat was a great experience that I am sure to never forget. I thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at the Treasure Boxes agency, in which myself, partnered with Scarlett Munday-Terry, welcomed and sorted through donations that came into the facility, as well as helping clean up the Blackwood Cafe. Throughout the Retreat, many aspects have left a big impact on me, such as learning about homelessness and all of the struggles and challenges that come with it.
Thank you to the staff who accompanied the students to Adelaide.
Congratulations to our Year 10 Art students who have had their work included in the “Junior Masters” exhibition at Gallery Central in Nhill. The exhibition is an extension of the “Mastering the Masters” project where artists are invited to submit work that copies masterpieces. Our students applied a contemporary process to interpret masterpieces using the techniques of modelling, photography and traditional oil painting. “Junior Masters” is on display at Gallery Central for the month of June.
Mrs Rook's Year 8/9 Textiles class has been working on lots of different projects recently! Here is a look at the dressing gowns, scrunchies, book bags and tote bags that the students have been making. Well done!
Last week, VCE VM students Jed and Saracen, with the help of Troy and Blake, cooked up a sausage sizzle for staff and students at lunchtime. All monies raised will be donated to Make-A-Wish Australia.
Well done!

Thank you to Alex from Horsham Rural City Council for visiting Miss Grace's Outdoor Ed class on Tuesday. Alex gave a presentation to the students educating them on waste, the environment, recycling and composting.
