Social Outreach

Term 1 was extremely busy for Social Outreach.

JSS (Jesuit Social Services)

We conducted our annual Food Drive for Jesuit Social Services, Ignite Food Store.  This was another successful year where we have as a community made a difference in many lives in the local community.

The staff at Jesuit Social Services really appreciate the trouble we go to to assist The Ignite Food Store.  They have asked that we pass on their thanks to each and every family who have been able to donate.  Our donations may be small individually but when we all join together we all make a huge difference.

The Stores shelves were able to be filled, but with the current financial pressures facing families they continue to regular donations.

Caritas

At the same time as our Food Drive was happening we were taking donations for Caritas - Project Compassion who work with the marginalised and vulnerable in the global community.  We have been able to transfer $509.00 that will directly benefit people throughout the world.

Thank you for your generosity

St Vincent de Paul

Our St Vincent de Paul group continue to reach out to the vulnerable and marginalised in our local area by making sandwiches.  We will continue to serve in this initiative further into this term and the rest of the year.

This week we also began visits to the CELC as a way of building community, mentoring our young students and supporting the transition process between ‘preschool’ and ‘big school’.

Calling all Knitters and Crocheters!!

We are again inviting all knitters and crocheters to create squares that we can make into blankets for Jesuit Refugee Services and St Vincent de Paul.

Open to all students and families to participate.  We will be knitting and crocheting all through winter.

Every Friday lunch in the Hub we are inviting students in Years 7-12 to join our Crafters group and work together on this Social Outreach Initiative.

Lets help others by sharing our love through warmth!!

Squares need to be 25 cm x 25 cm using 8 ply wool.  They can be knitted or Crocheted, whatever you enjoy.

Donations of 8 ply wool, knitting needles and crochet hooks are welcome to assist with this initiative.  Volunteers for sewing squares together are also welcome.

Liturgy

Saint Luke’s community commenced the term by celebrating the central point to our Catholic Faith, the Resurrection of Christ. In this celebration, students and teachers were able to reflect on this mystery in which Christ died for our faults and rose again to live among us. Students were reminded that they are called to be Easter people who are filled with the joy of the resurrection. Furthermore, they were encouraged to be the hands and feet of Jesus to spread the love and forgiveness that only comes from Christ. Finally, they were reminded that as Jesus left an empty tomb, for God nothing is impossible.

Anzac Day Liturgy

On Wednesday 27th of April, we gathered as a school community to remember all of the service men and women who have fallen in combat. Student Leaders and members of the Cadets took part in the ceremony to pay respect for the sacrifice of Australians in the armed forces. The students involved in the ceremony, as well as those who participated in the audience were a credit to our College, and it provided a fantastic way to mark the start of Term 2.
