Principal's Message

St Luke's... "nurturing faith filled, curious children to become creative contributors and innovative problem solvers for a changing world."

Dear Parents and Carers,

I write to you to share some exciting news about how we're keeping a close eye on your child's learning progress here at school. As teachers, we are committed to ensuring that your child is getting the most out of their education and ensuring that we are having a positive impact on their learning.

One of the ways we do this is through regular classroom assessments that allow us to check in on your child's learning progress. These regular formative assessments are done throughout a unit of work by the classroom teacher to check your child’s understanding of the learning and their ability to apply the skills they have learnt.

Assessments are an important tool that helps us to identify areas where your child may be struggling and where they excel so that we can provide them with differentiated learning to ensure that they are meeting their potential.

Apart from the regular classroom assessments, we also utilise various other data sources like NAPLAN and PAT to evaluate a cohort's progress. Along with the continuous classroom assessments and feedback on social and enterprise skills (our Pillars), this provides us a complete insight into your child's learning. These assessments are carefully chosen to give us a well-rounded picture of your child's skills and knowledge.

This year, we are adding an additional assessment, provided by Academic Assessment Services, called the “Allwell Assessment”, which will be undertaken by students in Years 3-10 this year to provide teaching staff with the opportunity to check in with our students, support curriculum development that is more personalised to the capability and potential of our students, and to measure their learning growth from year to year.

We believe that regular assessments are an important part of your child's education, and we are committed to using them in a way that supports their growth and development. If you have any questions about our assessment practices, please don't hesitate to get in touch with the school.

Thank you for your continued support of our school and your child's education.

Kind Regards,

Kelly Bauer
