Kitchen and Garden News

Week 1 of Kitchen and Garden
The garden and kitchen was abuzz this week with our first classes taking place in both the garden and kitchen. Our garden program kicked off with a garden scavenger hunt and this familiarised the students with the garden and what is growing at the moment. The kitchen was set up and ready to go for our first cooking lesson for the week and our parent helpers kept things running smoothly and there was a beautiful selection of food for the students to prepare and enjoy.
What has been cooking in the kitchen
Each fortnight we will update you with what we have been cooking in the kitchen with the kids. Dust off the apron and see if you can match the efforts of our Surfside students...
Volunteers Needed
The Kitchen and Garden program classes are commencing in Week 3 next week! Year 4 and Year 6 will be undertaking the program in Terms 1 and 2. (Year 3 and Year 5 in the second half of the year).
I am seeking volunteer adult helpers to assist in our Kitchen and Garden classes. Parents, grandparents, family friends, retirees, others, all welcome! Even if your child’s year level is not currently in the program.
You can help in the Kitchen, in the Garden, or both. No experience is required but all adult helpers need a current Working With Children’s Check (no cost to apply for). Garden classes will run on Tuesday mornings, and Kitchen classes on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Garden help is required outside of class times too!
Please contact me ASAP if you are able to assist or have any questions, via email Mewett.camille.l@edumail.vic.gov.au, or ask at the office.
