Art With Our Foundation Students

Foundations in Art this week…

What a wonderful start to the school year with all the new Foundation students getting their hands nice and messy!  Students used their fingers to dab and smear paint to form their names.

Smocks: All Foundation students need to provide an art smock which will be left in the classroom in their tubs. If you don’t have one, an old adult sized T-shirts works fine. Most of the products used are washable, but some products are quite staining. If your child’s clothes get marked use a stain soaker before putting them through a wash cycle.

Parent Helpers: Yes, the art room is open for parents to come in and assist. It is always a bonus to have an extra set of hands to assist with putting work in drying racks, refilling materials, washing up paint, or helping students who may need assistance.

School Sport Victoria News

Each year, talented Victorian School students have the opportunity to trial for a place in the School Sport Victoria (SSV) Team Vic State team.  Selected students participate in annual School Sport Australia (SSA) Championships including the Pacific School Games (PSG) held every second year.  These championships offer gifted and talented students the opportunity to participate in higher levels of sporting competition against students from other Australian States and Territories.  Participation in a School Sport Victoria Team Vic state team is self funded.  As a guide it may cost between $2,000-$3,000 to participate.  Costs may include uniforms, host state levies, flights, transport, accommodation and meals.  Costs will vary depending on the location of the Championship. 

School Sport Victoria enters one representative team in a number of sports in  the following SSA age group:  12 Years and Under.

The registration process is to be completed by the parents/guardians.  Schools are only permitted to nominate 3 students.  If more than 3 students express an interest a trial or further endorsements from outside affiliations may be required. Registrations will require school endorsement so please see Mr. Cunningham or Mr. Walsh to complete this process. Students would be expected to be at the following level in their chosen sport and provide the following:

*State or representative level

*Region representative

*Division 1 or highest level of local based sport

*Endorsement from local coach

2020 Bellarine and North Geelong Division Primary Schools Swimming Championships

Wednesday 11th March, 2020

Kardinia Aquatic Centre, South Geelong

We are interested in offering students aged 9 - 13 who swim regularly (preferably at a squad level or high level of swimming competence and able to competition dive) to nominate for the Surfside PS swimming team.  This is a Division stage swimming competition, against other students from schools in the Bellarine Division.  We will provide families with an online entry form to nominate their child with recorded times over 50m. The students will need to nominate their preferred event/s (students can enter a maximum of two individual events, one age group relay and one Medley relay - relays will be reliant on student numbers). The events that are available are 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m breastroke , 50m butterfly and relays. Swim teams usually consist of smaller numbers so it will be the responsibility of parents or carers to arrange travel to and from the venue on the competition day. Entries will close Friday 21st February.
