Getting to know the Surfside PS Team
Mr Walsh & Mrs Giggins
Each fortnight we are going to give you an insight into our Surfside Primary School teams so you know who is who around the school.
What do you love about Teaching and Learning?
Mr Walsh: The difference that you can make in someone's life at so many levels.
Mrs Giggins: There is always so much to learn. I love chatting to the students, seeing them making progress with their learning, mastering new challenges and growing in confidence.
What do you enjoy most about being at Surfside Primary School?
Mr Walsh: The staff are amazing and the community is so welcoming - I couldn't think of a better place to be.
Mrs Giggins: Every day is interesting and different and no day is ever the same. There’s always someone to talk to and always something to learn. I also really enjoy working in such a positive and respectful workplace and being a part of a great team.
What is an inspirational quote that you live by?
Mr Walsh: Be the best version of you.
Mrs Giggins: Kindness always matters.
What are you currently reading?
Mr Walsh: The 5am Club - Robin Sharma
Mrs Giggins: “Any Ordinary Day: Blindsides, Resilience and What Happens After the Worst Day of Your Life” by Leigh Sales and have just finished reading about Stuart Diver, survivor of the Thredbo landslide.
What is something interesting about you that we may not already know?
Mr Walsh: That I am working towards completing a marathon - quite a challenge for an old 100m sprinter.
Mrs Giggins: I attend a weekly community singing group, which is a great way to calm my mind after a busy day at work.
Building and Grounds Update - School Entrance
We have met with our architects and builders throughout the week and it is great to hear that all of our current work is on schedule. Exterior work should begin on the Gym Hall next week. We have met as a Building and Grounds group and we are beginning to put a plan in place to rejuvenate the front of the school. We are seeking support to complete this goal through the following ways:
- Student Voice - students will have the opportunity to design the front area of the school and have input into ideas.
- Parent Helpers/Expertise - If you have a skill in any of the following areas - gardening, horticulture, design, etc please fill out THIS FORM and we can put together a database and keep you notified of project progress.
We will keep our school community informed of our progress and look forward to getting this off the ground.
Rotary Junior Community Awards 2020
The Rotary Junior Community Awards (RJCA) program has been operating within Surfside PS, with considerable success, for several years. Our current Year 6 cohort have a great opportunity to take part in the Rotary Junior Community Awards in 2020. Our Year 6 students will have the opportunity to hear from Rotary regarding the requirements of the program and will bring home some information for families. This is a great opportunity to build on various skills, connect with the local community and develop empathy in students. We hope to see as many Year 6 students as possible participating in this valuable program and look forward to supporting their journey throughout the year. If you have any further questions please make contact with Mr Chapman and we appreciate the support that Rotary provides Surfside Primary School.
Parent Helpers - we look forward to working with you
We have been approached by a number of parents who would like to support the great work that is happening at Surfside Primary School. We will work over the coming weeks to start to foster and embrace this commitment to our school through developing relevant working parties. We would like to thank the families who have assisted over the opening weeks with some gardening, clean up and improving the facilities at Surfside. We need to remember that our students will connect and develop a greater connection with the school when we connect as families, so we look forward to welcoming you and are appreciative of any support that you can provide.
