New Families Catch Up - Coffee Van - Friday Morning

We will have a Coffee Van here on Friday morning and would like to ask all of our new Foundation and Surfside parents and carers to stay around for a morning coffee and a chat. This will be a great opportunity to meet some other new families and make those connections at the start of the year. We also welcome any parents who would like to stay around after the morning has started to welcome our new families to Surfside PS.

Parent Meet and Greet and Meet and Mingle Evening

Thank you to all of our families who took the time to drop in and meet with their teacher(s) for 2020. It was a great chance to highlight everything we need to know to help your child transition into the school year. Thank you to everyone who attended our meet and mingle with our sausage sizzle and games for the kids. It was a great turn out and we even had a surprise visit from our first ever Principal Lindsay Fisher. A big thank you to all of our staff over the 2 evenings, our school council members who came along and helped on the BBQ and serving. Most of all thanks to Linda Giggins, Robyn Frew and Vicki Schomacker for all of their coordination and help.

It has been a pleasure to spend some time in every classroom over the first few weeks and see all of the students and teachers building strong relationships, setting goals academically, socially and emotionally and settling well into their school routines. It makes me very proud to see our students, staff,  parents and carers walking around with smiles and it definitely gives Surfside PS that vibe of being a caring and inclusive learning environment - keep up the great work Team Surfside!!

Garden Working Bee Thank You

Thank you to the families who assisted Camille Mewett with our recent Garden Working Bee. This definitely assisted with our garden set up for Term 1 and upcoming planting needs. We will look at organising our next working bee following the March long weekend, before winter sport kicks off for most families so watch this space...

Safe Travel to School - Ride/Scoot or Walk

It is great to see so many students and families participating in active travel to school by walking and riding to school on a regular basis. When travelling to school by bike or foot please adhere to the road rules by using the crossings or lights located on Shell Road and John Dory Drive and wearing a helmet to school when riding a bike or scooter (this includes parents). We want to ensure that all of our students and parents make it to school safely and this is increased when we wear our helmets correctly and adhere to road rules and regulations.

School Council 2020

Our first school council meeting for the new school year will be held on Tuesday 18th February. This will be our last formal school council meeting with the current members and we will develop our new school council for 2020 following our AGM. We would like to thank the following members for their service as their tenure on school council comes to an end:

  • Allason Lynch - School Council President (2 year tenure)
  • Georgina McCowan - parent representative (2 year tenure)
  • Sarah Anstis - parent representative (1 year tenure)
  • Gill Hodgson - staff representative (2 year tenure)
  • Tom Roberts - staff representative (2 year tenure)

We thank these members for being the voice of our school community and providing valuable support for the school and they are more than welcome to re-apply for 2020. In our next newsletter we will be calling for nominations for our 2020 school council and if you require any information or have any questions please see a member of our administration team.

Have a great week,

Peter Walsh
