CAMPS AND EXCURSIONS

SustainABILITY Excursion

Wednesday 4th March saw four groups of students head to Melbourne Zoo for a workshop and a chance to experience the zoo.

The Student Environment Group and Year 9/10 Outdoor Ed classes were inspired by a SustainABILITY workshop, where students were  introduced to the many sustainability initiatives implemented by Melbourne Zoo, including composting animal waste, recycling water and improving biodiversity. They were challenged on how they could adapt these ideas and technology to use in the school environment.

Year 12 Outdoor Ed viewed the sustainability initiatives through their curriculum and will use the experience to inform their learning as they progress toward their VCE exam.

Year 11 Psychology participated in a workshop on data research methods that they will use in their curriculum. All reports were positive and  it was an excellent session that covered animal behaviour as well as data collection and analysis.

The students were, as always, impeccably behaved and enjoyed a chance to explore the zoo. They managed their time well, and many students were very excited to have visited every exhibition. Congratulations to all involved.

CSI Excursion

Year 9 and 10 CSI had a fantastic day at Quantum Victoria participating in a Forensic Science Workshop. Our students were incredible and our presenters thanked us for being ‘one of the best groups we have ever had’.

Well done Scientists!

CSI IN ACTION

Someone has broken a Science rule, but has left some crucial evidence behind.

There have been coffee cups left in the Science Lab over a period of time, and we need to find out who the culprit is! The CSI class put their skills to the test this week by finding and identifying fingerprints left on the cups and comparing them to the suspects fingerprints, which Mrs Muldoon had collected. Who has been drinking their coffee in Science??

YEAR 7 CAMP

On the 19th to the 21st of Februar,y all year 7s went to Grantville lodge for camp to get to know our peers. Some of the activities were high ropes, low ropes, ga-ga ball, hut building, canoeing and the survivor challenge which was on the last day of the camp. There was an old chapel there with a note about a plague from a long time ago and in one of the cupboards we saw black stones, sticky notes and old books. Some of the food we had were wraps, salads, soup, Parma, corn, rumballs and more.

On the first night we watched a movie called angry birds 2 and on the trivia night we had a time limit on a range of questions. There were challenges that were time limited as well. Some of  the things I found funny included when I almost slipped off the catwalk, the survivor challenge and when some of the rafts sank in the dam. I enjoyed canoeing, the leap of faith on the high ropes, the low ropes, ga-ga ball, the maze and the survivor challenge, but not the hut build because Josh, Dylan, Taylan and I couldn’t find the right sized sticks! Overall I had a great time and I encourage all year 7’s to attend in 2021.
